We’re delighted to announce that Elephant Park has just won a prestigious award from RoSPA – a charity who are focused on creating safe environments for all.

The Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents announced Elephant Springs as the winner in the category of ‘Free to use Public Playgrounds’.

Before awarding the top spot, RoSPA took into consideration the quality of each play area as well as the element of safety for the children who use it. To measure ‘play value’, RoSPA assesses the range of children who might use it, the features on offer, the experience provided, and the quality and quantity of play provision.

When designing Elephant Springs, the public realm and health and safety teams went above and beyond to challenge the ambitions of what was possible and push the boundaries of what was achievable – all while creating a safe space for children and adults to enjoy.

In the case of Elephant Springs, the judges pronounced: “It provides excellent play value to a wide range of children, incorporating natural features such as sand and water play into the built and landscaped environment,” and went on to award it the winner in the ‘Free to use Public Playgrounds’ category.

For those of you who haven’t yet visited, Elephant Springs is a corner of Elephant Park which has been transformed into a natural play area. Water springs up from the ground and trickles through natural rock formations. Sandy areas are dotted throughout the space, with hammocks, outdoor picnic areas and bridges crossing over gentle streams. It’s a place that inspires even the smallest child to engage with nature and provides adults with a natural environment in which to relax.

The springs themselves are now flowing through Elephant Park once more and will be for the rest of the summer season, open every day from 10am – 6pm. They’re free to visit and are, quite frankly, a wonderful day out for all the family. Why not plan your visit in advance and bring a packed lunch, or pick something up from one of our fabulous eateries and enjoy a fair weather day here in South London?
