Launched in 2019, the Pineapple Awards celebrate the very best in placemaking and recognise excellence in places where people want to live, work and play. There's also a commitment to recognising projects that make a positive social, environmental and economic impact. So we’re delighted that Elephant Park has won not just one, but two Pineapple Awards in 2022!

Christine Murray, editor-in-chief of The Developer which co-founded the awards, announced 2022’s winners at Boxpark Wembley on 6th July with a backdrop of street food, entertainment, and a mariachi band. She commented that the awards helped to "shine a light on what good looks like" in terms of place.

Our vision for Elephant Park is to truly deliver above and beyond what is expected; to make a real difference for the project and the area, and to ensure that Elephant Park becomes part of London’s rich tapestry of green spaces and streets. Winning two Pineapple Awards cements our…

Pineapple for Public Space 2022

The judges felt that this award demonstrated how remarkable Elephant Park is as a place. They were impressed with the park’s 2 acres of greenery including community space, green lawns, mature trees, natural pedestrian walkways and, of course, Elephant Springs, our landmark water playscape.

Elephant Park was regarded by the judges as a great example of what can be achieved by taking a considered approach and focusing on the small details. They noted that the development carefully considered the wider places around it to blend and spread the benefits it brings. They were particularly impressed by the culture of learning; the focus on working with academic bodies to collect and share data measuring health and wellbeing; and on being car-free. The judges also described Elephant Park as a new benchmark for large developments in the future.

Pineapple for Place in Progress 2022

To date, Elephant Park has delivered 1,784 new homes; an energy centre supplying net-zero-carbon heat and hot water with additional capacity for a further 1,000 properties outside its boundary; 32 new retail units for cafes, shops, restaurants and fitness operators; and a brand new 2-acre park at the heart of the masterplan.

Elephant Park was rewarded for the effort that was made to create a welcoming community hub – everything from signage to the detail of landscaping and the mix of retail units which are now home to a variety of independent businesses was considered. In public areas, the judges felt security had a deliberately light touch and, on their visits, the park was genuinely buzzing with a mix of all ages.

Elephant Park has always strived to be an open and welcome community located in the heart of Elephant & Castle which is green and sustainable, offering opportunities for the local community, and we’re delighted to be awarded these two pineapples for our efforts.
