Elephant & Castle: How close is it to London’s biggest and best attractions

Here at Elephant Park, we talk so often about being situated in London’s Zone 1, a well-connected neighbourhood that’s only moments away from some of London’s most popular attractions. But where is Elephant and Castle? And how do I get there? We’re a neighbourhood in central London, situated just south of the River Thames. The area is south of the South Bank and lies just inside Southwark Borough, close to its boundary with Lambeth.

Historically, Elephant and Castle was the intersection of several of London’s major transport routes. And to this day it’s still one of the city’s most well-connected and accessible transport hubs.

Situated in Zone 1, Elephant and Castle is well-served for public transport. It has a tube station, railway station, Thameslink services, and connects around 50 bus routes. And if the trusty bicycle is your preferred method of transport, the area has excellent cycling infrastructure and will soon have thousands of bike parking spaces as well as bike maintenance and cleaning areas. But being located in Zone 1 has one very important benefit, besides the excellent transport links. Being so close to the heart of the city means there’s a host of places only a short walk away. Within 25 minutes from Elephant and Castle, you can reach landmarks like London Bridge, The Tower of London, The Shard, and of course the River Thames. Stretch your walk to around 30 minutes and you’re at Covent Garden, Westminster Abbey and the City of London itself.

We appreciate that you may not want to walk everywhere, and as one of London’s most well-connected transport routes, Elephant and Castle has great links to the South Bank and beyond, making it the perfect base if you’re a commuter or looking for a base to explore the sites of London.

For culture and theatre lovers, you can be at South Bank in 4 minutes on the tube, with only a short walk to attractions such as the London Eye, Hayward Gallery, and the National Theatre. Or you can get to London’s West End in 10 minutes, a short distance from the theatre district.

For commuters, the zone 1 Elephant and Castle tube station will get you to the City of London in 4 minutes via London Bridge station, or around 6 minutes via Bank station. If you prefer to cycle, City of London is less than 10 minutes.

So, in answer to our initial question - where is Elephant and Castle? If you’re wondering if it’s the right place for you and if it gives you access to the parts of the city you need to get to, it’s safe to say that it probably does!
