The 2019 Southwark Business Excellence Awards are currently being judged.

The awards, in association with London South Bank University, were launched last year to mark the achievements of Southwark’s vibrant business community, which is made up of some 18,000 companies. The event attracted hundreds of entries and was a great success.

With the aim of making 2019 an even bigger triumph, the awards kicked-off in January with a lavish launch party at The Shard, sponsored by construction company Willmott Dixon. More than 200 guests and sponsors attended the sell-out gathering, which included presentations by a range of inspirational speakers.

In 2018, contemporary restaurant Spinach was crowned Southwark Business of the Year. Other winners included: Hop Burns & Black, the hot sauce, ale and record shop, which picked up the Independent Retailer of the Year accolade, sponsored by Lendlease; VHR, Best Employer; and latin restaurant Paladar was named Best New Startup. A full list of winners can be found here.

Categories for this year’s awards are as follows:

Apprentice Employer of the Year
Best Charity or Social Enterprise
Best Small Business

Entries closed on 20 March and the judging process is currently underway. The winners, and the overall Southwark Business of the Year, will then be announced at a gala dinner and charity ball awards ceremony for 450 people at the Hilton London Bankside hotel in June 2019.
