In case you need an excuse for some al fresco dining, National Picnic Week is coming up – so what better time to grab your blanket and find a spot in Elephant Park?
National Picnic Week begins on 21 June and runs until 30 June – that’s 10 days to celebrate outdoor eating and perfect your picnic game plan.

This summer is set to be a scorcher, with the Met Office predicting three months of above-average temperatures, and Elephant Park is the perfect place to enjoy the outdoors. It is the largest new park in central London for 70 years and an acre is currently open, combining mature trees, play areas, a performance space and plenty of open green land.

To ensure the park flourishes and remains a sanctuary, it’s important to look after the space, to keep it a safe and happy place for all. You can help with this by not using barbecues or lighting fires, and by disposing of all your litter.

A tipple is always welcome on a hot weekend and alcohol is allowed in the park if it’s for personal consumption as part of a picnic – just remember to leave the glassware at home to avoid breakages.

Music can help the ambience of a picnic, but remember, other park users might prefer the sound of birdsong to Blur, so be considerate with the volume control.

The beauty of a picnic is that it can be whatever you want it to be – from a simple and spontaneous affair to an elaborate, planned occasion with plenty of homemade goodies. Whether you prefer the simplicity of a baguette with cheese or an all-out feast, Elephant Park is the perfect picnic backdrop.

If Elephant Park is your favourite picnic spot, vote for it on the National Picnic Week website.
