Elephant & Castle is currently undergoing a huge transformation. A new town centre, along with thousands of homes, amenities, a park and – importantly – public and community spaces, aims to make Elephant & Castle one of London’s most exciting places to be.
Whether you live here, work close by, or are just visiting, check out these five cool places to visit in Elephant & Castle:
MERCATO METROPOLITANO
Prepare to have your taste buds tickled at this bustling market space. Since it opened in 2016, foodies have been flooding to the outdoor, covered food hall to savour treats from around the globe.
Whether it’s pizza and pasta, tacos and fajitas, or shish kebabs and meze, you’ll find it – and much more – here.
GET FIT AT MINISTRY OF SOUND
You don’t have to be an avid club-goer to know this is an institution in the global clubbing scene. The home of dance music, close to Elephant & Castle underground station, has been going strong, for more than 20 years.
Last year, the legendary venue launched a timetable of fitness classes – just the thing for the health conscious who also love a strong bass line.

ELEPHANT PARK
Located in the heart of Elephant & Castle, Elephant Park is an exciting new development in this buzzing Zone 1 address.
As well as bringing new homes, jobs and amenities to the area, Elephant Park is providing much-needed green space for the community in the form of a two-acre park – the first half of which opened to the public last year.
THE CINEMA MUSEUM
Once the Lambeth Workhouse, where Charlie Chaplin was sent as a child, the museum has been celebrating film for the past 20 years. Located close to Elephant & Castle, the museum tells the history of the silver screen from the 1890s to the present day.
Book a tour in advance and take in the displays of artefacts, memorabilia and equipment, including cinema seats and signs, stills and posters and projectors.
IMPERIAL WAR MUSEUM
No visit to Elephant & Castle would be complete without a trip to the Imperial War Museum, just a short walk away in Kennington.
The impressive façade will take your breath away, while the dramatic displays of guns, aircraft and memorabilia, spanning from WWI and WWII to today, will leave you with goose bumps.
