Spoken Word Night
Thursday 30 August
Free, just stop by
The best London’s poets, professional and amateur, perform their spoken word and prose compilations in an informal gathering on the grass.
Don’t miss Sam Berkson, aka ‘Angry Sam’, at Elephant Park who has been hosting and promoting live poetry events with Hammer & Tongue for over a decade. He has won slams, performed in three continents and published two books of poetry with Influx Press.
Sam’s recent collection, ‘Settled Wanderers’, records his experience living on the Western Saharan refugee camps and contains the first English translations of Saharawi poetry.
‘I have always found Sam’s dedication to poetry inspiring. He has the rare gift of being informed and intelligent without being condescending. He is a good poet, a poet in the true sense of the word.’– Kate Tempest, poet
Sam will be joined by James Crozier, Jackie Kearns and local performers from Southwark based People’s Company – an evening of words not to be missed in Elephant & Castle.
