For the first time, Brazilian festival and celebration of the harvest, Junina Fest comes to Elephant Park.
What can I expect at Junina Fest?
Immerse yourself in a typical Brazilian celebration with a twist. Also known as the ‘festa de São João’, Junina Fest is a take on Festa Junina, a national party in June that celebrates the harvest, community and fun.
Dress up and bring your family, children and friends to try Brazilian street food delicacies, listen toBrazilian rhythms, including Forró, a genre that originated in northeast Brazil and has evolved to include many different musical beats and dance styles,, and take part in the Brazilian square dance Quadrilha.
Junina Fest is a collaboration between three cultural groups: Comida Fest (a Latin-American street food events company; comida means food or meal in Spanish and Portuguese); Braziliarty, a Brazilian arts platform that has been producing cultural events since 2008; and Gandaia Arts, a dance and performance arts collaborative – in partnership with Elephant Park, Forró Foundations and Festa Junina International.
Founder and director of Braziliarty Alicia Bastos is excited about bringing this event to Elephant Park: “Junina Fest is a lot of fun – in some places in Brazil, it’s bigger than the carnival!
“It’s an event from the Brazilian community for everyone – a community-centred and inclusive event, with family and children welcome.
“A perfect day out for families to meet up and where, later on, the party vibe will get people dancing.
“Junina Fest is for everyone to get to know and enjoy this unique event. We’re really excited to be bringing this great Brazilian party with a twist to Elephant and Castle!”
