Elephant and Castle, it’s time to get your dancing shoes on.

Big Dance Southwark is launching its “Dancing on the Street” group of events on Saturday 27th July, and we’re all invited!

Held at the Cornerstone Community Centre, between 1-3pm, the free event will include workshops and dances from local dancers and groups, including Jazz Dance Elite performing numbers from their show ‘Swinging at the Cotton Club’.

Alex Walker, whose group the ‘Fro Backs’ featured in the BBC’s The Greatest Dancer, will be holding a dance workshop, while dancer, actor and singer Chisara Agor will tell the story of her journey through tap and jazz, including her having the number one jazz album in Europe.

Big Dance Southwark is a community-led movement created to encourage people of all ages to see how it’s possible to progress from local dance classes into a professional career.

“This will be a great showcase of the talent our local area has produced,” says Big Dance organiser, choreographer and founder of Jazz Dance Elite and The Lindy Hop Dance company, Jreena Green.

“The wider dance community has to work together to further our common interests,” continues Jreena, ”And this is a great platform for people to get together, spread the word and get everyone dancing! We look forward to seeing lots of you on Saturday 27th.”
