  • 31 January 2022

Spurred on by the upcoming Lunar New Year and some exciting new restaurant signings here at Elephant Park, we thought we’d create a round-up of Chinese cuisine in the surrounding area. So, if you’re looking for a great Chinese in Elephant and Castle – read on.

Pot + Rice
13 Sayer Street, SE17 1FY

Pot + Rice is based on a popular, Southern Chinese street food dish known as clay pot rice. The use of a traditional clay pot to cook the dish gives the rice on the bottom of the pot a scorched, crispy texture, whilst keeping the rice in the middle soft and fluffy.

When you receive your dish (which can be cooked with a variety of flavours and ingredients) you mix it all together with your chosen amount of sauce for a tasty meal.

We say get yourself a Pot + Rice, accompanied by Cheung Fun, a type of Dim Sum where different ingredients are rolled in rice paper and smothered in sweet soy sauce!

Dragon Castle
100 Walworth Road, SE17 1JL

Not your standard Chinese buffet, but instead a sophisticated Chinese fusion restaurant on Walworth Road. Dragon Castle is traditional and stylish on the inside but serving up twists on Chinese tradition when it comes to the menu.

From 12pm – 4.30pm each day, there’s a Dim Sum menu which uses authentic ingredients that you’d be as likely to find on a Dim Sum menu in Shanghai. Steamed black bean chicken feet, beef tripes in pepper sauce and Thai style chicken claws are but a few options for the bold and daring. That said, the Dim Sum menu is bursting full of options for those who know what they like – dumplings, spring rolls, and steamed rice bowls are also represented in abundance.

All day until 11pm, the main menu is also available. You can choose to do small plates, main dishes or a mixture of all. The seafood specials are especially tantalising, so leave plenty of room to sample as much as you can on your visit!

After Taste Chinese
97 Newington Butts, SE1 6SF

After Taste Chinese in Elephant and Castle is a tasty, traditional eatery offering takeaway and delivery services as well as sit-in. The menu brings you all the favourites you’d expect: sweet and sour, aromatic duck and noodle soup. The set meals are exceptional value and can be delivered across the wider Elephant and Castle area. You can view the menu and order online via the After Taste website

Kiki & Miu Miu
141 Walworth Road, SE17 1RW

Next time you fancy sourcing a Chinese in Elephant and Castle, instead, why not try cooking it yourself? In 2021 we welcomed Kiki & Miu Miu to Elephant Park, London’s specialist Asian supermarket, selling ingredients commonly found in Chinese, Korean, Japanese, Vietnamese and Taiwanese cuisine.

So why not google some recipes and pay them a visit to collect your ingredients? If your order is over £50 they will also deliver to you for free. But we say – go in. It’s fascinating to see all the ingredients and products on offer, from confectionary to coffee, pickles to puddings.

Dim Sum Lab
1 Walworth Road, London SE17 1GA

For authentic and high quality Chinese street food, try Dim Sum Lab located within Mmy Mercato Metropolitano. With Cantonese, Hakka, Sichaun and Northern Chinese influences, their menu features all the most popular street food dishes from marinated hard boiled eggs to a variety of dumplings and noodles. Vegetarian and vegan options are available and you can view their complete menu on their website
